The Concept of This Program

This program is a 5-day, 4-night spring camp set in the rural woodland of Nagusa, Ashikaga City, Tochigi Prefecture, and is packed with experiences such as fishing, art, woodworking, and mochi pounding.

Nagusa is a place where Campship Academy began its involvement after a certain encounter in 2024. Despite facing social issues such as an aging population and labor shortages, we hit it off with the local people who are trying to preserve and pass on the good old traditions and customs of the Satoyama area, and have since built a relationship through cleanup activities and programs.

In this special place, the children do not simply play the games that are prepared for them, but with the cooperation of local people, they enter the mountains and embark on an adventure, creating their own games. The creation of mountain steps and bamboo swings is imbued with the desire to value the process in which the children themselves think about and create things.

Furthermore, spending a solid period of time together over four nights and five days helps participants to become closer to their peers, and fosters teamwork and cooperation through communal living and creative activities. Another attraction of this camp is the opportunity to fully engage with one's own interests and curiosity as time flows leisurely in the countryside.

Making a fire, playing with bamboo, fishing, cooking their own meals... Through these daily activities, they will come face to face with the mountains and rivers, feel nature with their whole body, and experience the culture and wisdom that lives in their daily lives.

This is a special five-day program that values connections with people and weaves together experiences that can only be had in the spring countryside, each one handcrafted.

Key Features

Rare Waters: Nishina Three Lakes at the Foot of the Northern Alps

The Nishina Three Lakes, one of Japan’s rare natural lake groups, offer a unique “mountain water” experience unlike the ocean. Surrounded by mountains, with crystal-clear water and calm surfaces, they provide a truly special waterside environment. Activities are conducted with strict safety measures in place, including well-trained staff supervision and mandatory life jacket use to ensure a safe experience.

Experience the joy of creating play.

This program begins with the act of creating play “with your own hands.” We value the process of handcrafting bamboo guns and rafts and then generating play with friends from there, starting with the joy of “creation” rather than enjoying play with “provided” tools.

Play by utilizing nature's scale

We play in the vast lake, on the ski slopes, and in nature itself. I can just imagine the children, eyes shining, running around full of energy!

The experience of putting it together as a team in the final stages

A program design where you choose your own activities.

There are many ways to enjoy nature, and each person has their own. Many of the children who come to camp lead busy lives, constantly pressed for time. At Camp Ship Academy, we don't just stick to a fixed schedule. Instead, we prioritize giving children the freedom to delve deeper into their interests (such as plants, insects, fire, the sky, and food) without being constrained by time.
