The Concept of This Program

This is a seven-day long camp based in the naturally rich village of Hara in the Yatsugatake Mountains, where children share food, clothing, and shelter with their friends and build their own with their own hands. Participants can choose the activities that interest them from a wide range of content, including agricultural, dairy, and forestry experiences in collaboration with Yatsugatake Agricultural College, reforestation, water activities on the lake, playing in the river, and outdoor cooking. The greatest feature of this camp is that the children live independently and communally, rather than following a set schedule.

Key Features

Autonomous Scheduling: Tackling "Questions with No Right Answer" with Colleagues

The program’s greatest feature is its child-led approach to planning and running the schedule. Rather than simply following a predetermined itinerary, it begins with each group deciding what they want to do. Through the experience of making decisions and taking action on their own, children move away from dependence and develop strong self-determination and creativity.

Project: "Visualizing Growth" in 14 Days

Each day is built around a theme such as “food,” “mountains,” “farming,” “water,” “cycling,” or “arts & crafts,” with teams taking on missions together. From budgeting and shopping for ingredients to cooking and planning their own hiking routes, participants take initiative in every step. By reflecting on their experiences through words and achievements, they leave on the final day with a powerful sense of accomplishment and newfound confidence.

An "authentic" experience that delves deep into the nature and industries of Yatsugatake

Through collaboration with Yatsugatake Agricultural College, participants engage in dairy and harvest experiences, as well as tent stays. Rather than being just play, these activities allow children to truly feel what it means to “live” in nature. Stepping away from the conveniences of daily life and creating something with their own hands brings a deep sense of joy and broadens their perspectives in meaningful ways.
