Yatsugatake - A 7-day long camping trip

Full

6 nights and 7 days - Saturday, August 9th to Friday, August 15th, 2025

The Concept of This Program

This is a seven-day long camp based in the naturally rich village of Hara in the Yatsugatake Mountains, where children share food, clothing, and shelter with their friends and build their own with their own hands. Participants can choose the activities that interest them from a wide range of content, including agricultural, dairy, and forestry experiences in collaboration with Yatsugatake Agricultural College, reforestation, water activities on the lake, playing in the river, and outdoor cooking. The greatest feature of this camp is that the children live independently and communally, rather than following a set schedule.

Key Features

7 days of living away from home and gaining independence

It's rare to have the experience of being away from your parents for a week in your daily life. You may encounter difficulties along the way, and there may be moments when you want to go home. It's a valuable time to help each other with your companions, face yourself, and grow stronger through a journey that isn't always fun.

Personal Choice

Personal Individual Choice (PIC), where children choose activities that interest them from a variety of options, unleashes their curiosity. It's a unique program in the world where children decide what they want to do and fully enjoy themselves.

Canoeing on the Lake

Participants can enjoy a canoeing experience on a nearby lake, becoming one with nature as they take in views only visible from the water. It’s a free-spirited adventure on the lake and one of the optional activities to choose from.

Team up and cooperate! Camp Ship Cup

Campship Academy’s original sports day brings together children and leaders in mixed teams. In addition to familiar sports, participants compete in team-based challenges through wide games and group activities. With mixed-age team compositions that focus less on winning or losing, the program helps children develop cooperation and teamwork skills.

Dairy Farming Experience + Butter/Cheese/Jam Making

At the farm of Yatsugatake Agricultural College, participants can enjoy hands-on experiences such as dairy farming, making butter and cheese from freshly collected milk, and creating jam from harvested vegetables. This is one of the optional activities to choose from.

Tree Climbing and Forestry Experience

Enjoy tree climbing and forestry experiences at the farm of our partner Yatsugatake Nogyo Jissen Daigakko (Yatsugatake Agricultural Practical College). Participants will learn about the challenges of nurturing trees and the importance of skills involved in forestry, fostering an understanding of the relationship between humans and forests. This is one of the optional activities.

Popular summer activity: Playing in rivers and water

Enjoy playing in the river that flows through the vast Yatsugatake Agricultural University grounds! Cool off in the refreshing water and beat the summer heat!
