Tokyo Tradition and Evolution - Culture, food and career in the city (Greater Tokyo Area) (2027)

ASIJ Exploration Week - February 2027

3 days (day trips, no overnight) – Feb 1–3 and/or Feb 3–5, 2027

Concept

Three days to see the city you live in from a completely new angle. This program explores Tokyo through three themes — culture, food and career — and shows how the city's traditions and its future live side by side.

Culture: Edo crafts, still alive. Students visit a traditional dyeing workshop where crafts from the Edo era are still made today, meet the craftspeople who keep them alive, and try dyeing their own tenugui (Japanese hand towel).

Food: Catch, fillet, eat. Students go fishing in Tokyo Bay, learn to fillet their own catch with a professional, and then eat what they caught.

Career: Building something new. Students meet an entrepreneur who has started their own business in Tokyo, hear the story behind it, and think about what their own future careers could look like.

This program runs as a series of three day trips, with no overnight stay.

New for 2027: this journey joins Exploration Week for the first time this year. Be one of the first ASIJ students to take it on!
