Concept

Located in the calm waters of the Seto Inland Sea, Naoshima is a small island celebrated worldwide for its contemporary art. This three-day journey invites students to experience not only world-class art but also the rhythm of island life, cycling through nature, and the unique local culture.

The adventure begins with a peaceful ferry ride across the Seto Inland Sea. As the busy city fades behind them, students can enjoy the gentle breeze, watch the islands drift by, and feel a sense of calm and freedom. Upon arrival, bicycles become their companions, allowing them to explore quiet roads, coastal paths, and hidden corners of the island. Along the way, they discover outdoor artworks, stunning scenery, and the daily life of the island community.

Visiting the Benesse House Museum, Chichu Art Museum, and Naoshima Museum provides opportunities to experience world-class art seamlessly integrated with the surrounding nature. In Honmura, students wander through narrow streets where traditional Japanese houses have been transformed into art spaces as part of the Art House Project, seeing firsthand how creativity revitalizes communities.

Evenings are spent in a Mongolian-style Lodge, where students can relax under the soft night sky, listening to the waves and reflecting on the day’s experiences. Through art, cycling, and immersion in island life, students gain a deeper appreciation for nature, creativity, and the quiet rhythms of daily life.

Over the course of three days, Naoshima becomes more than just a place to visit—it becomes a feeling, a harmonious blend of art, nature, and human warmth that leaves a lasting impression.
